For the love of Peace River, and other happenings around CBWC

In June the First Baptist Church of Peace River, AB spend a full day in service of the city, for the love of Peace River. Church members volunteered all over town to show their love of the community in a God-inspired way.

Chelsea Freidt who organized the event says,”We just want people to know that we love the community, that God loves Peace River.” It all started in March when Chelsea saw I love Peace River t-shirts at a local business. “I had a vision of our church wearing those shirts, showing that God loves this city, through us. Because that’s what the church is.”

First Baptist Peace River has about 300 members, so Chelsea was hoping for 50 or so volunteers, but 90 people came. They spread out over the city to pick up garbage in public places, muck out stalls at an animal rescue shelter, clean up a farm for a single parent, and led worship at a senior’s home. Chelsea’s hoping to make it a semi-annual event, with a clean-up day every spring and fall.

The day ended with a free BBQ, which volunteers invited people throughout the day.  A lot of folks came to eat, which Chelsea says was a great way to meet new people and spread the message that God and First Baptist love this city.

They’ve produced a great video of the day—check it out here:
