Canadian Baptist of Western Canada

Church & SSA

At the CBWC 2013 Assembly (‘The Gathering’), the following motion was passed: Bible Study By A Man Of God Or Pastor

“That the Assembly request that the CBWC Board facilitate meaningful discussion in regards to same gender attracted individuals and church engagement and pastoral care. Further, that the CBWC Board seek ways as a denomination to provide resources for churches and individuals for this journey which is challenging for all.”

In response to the motion, the CBWC Board appointed a resource team of individuals from all three CBWC Regions.  The mandate of the group was to gather resources that would serve pastors and churches addressing this topic.  These website pages are a compilation of the work of this resource team.

As a family of churches, the CBWC has engaged in a series of conversations as we seek resources to encourage the ministry of the local church.  Over the past several years the CBWC has created policies delineating our current process.  The core resources we have drawn together, engage and affirm a historic and orthodox understanding of this area which reflects broad agreement within the CBWC.  The following resources were selected by a committee of the CBWC to present the best resources of the viewpoints on these topics, but they do not necessarily represent CBWC policy. Within the Baptist understanding of ‘soul liberty’ and congregational autonomy, many voices participate in this discussion.  While we have some consensus on our core resources, there are other resources (available by clicking the ‘MORE’ link) that are part of the current conversation and are noted for further reflection.
