CBWC Board Members
Laura Nelson is the Senior Pastor of Olivet Baptist in New Westminster, BC. She has been there for the past 5 years and is very grateful to minister to such a great group of people. Laura has two daughters, Abigail (29) and Emily (26). Growing up Laura was involved in West Vancouver Baptist and Keats Camps (working there for 8 summers). After a year at BLTS and two years at UBC she moved to the United States until June 1999. Being involved in other denominations was a great opportunity but came back to Canada with a renewed appreciation for the CBWC. She is currently working on a Doctor of Ministry with the goal of having a thesis that will be a benefit for the denomination.
For the past 20 years, Tim Kerber has been privileged to serve Community Baptist Church in Leduc, AB. Alongside being pastor, he is sometimes janitor, gardener, teacher, camp leader, comedian, and fellow journeyer along with a host of other titles that could be listed. All of these roles make for a rich and beautiful way of walking with Christ and with one another. Tim is married to Rachelle and they have two grade school children. Tim is honoured to serve on the board and has personally experienced the benefits and blessings of being part of this denomination. He looks forward to honouring the intentions of those who have wisely guided us this far and forging new paths which invite people to faith and maturity as we seek to honor God in our life together.
Kayely Rich is a full-time counsellor and an ordained minister. Having grown up in the denomination and being given the opportunity to live in all 4 western provinces, she has been able to meet many of the amazing people that make up the CBWC. She has settled down in Regina, SK where she is very happily married to Gerald and enjoys chairing the Personnel Commission at First Baptist. In her spare time, she can be found preaching the odd sermon, having tea with a friend or travelling with her hubby.
BC & Yukon Representatives
Nora has served as the Moderator and Chair of the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church in Victoria for the past 6 years. She has been an active member of FBC Victoria since 2001. Previous to that she was a member of Trinity Baptist in Sherwood Park, AB. She is a teacher by training. She currently serves as Moderator of the BC/Y Region for 2012-2014 and as President of the Convention of Baptist Churches of BC. She also coordinates the Vancouver Island Prayer Chain for our 16 churches on Vancouver Island. Nora loves visiting patients in hospitals and long term care facilities with her therapy cat Tetley Teabag. She has witnessed that the gift of unconditional love hospital residents discover in her cat can create a bridge to sharing the love of Jesus Christ.
Cal is presently serving as Lead Pastor of First Baptist Church in Prince George, BC. After starting out in the oil patch as a Chemical Engineer, he attended Southern Seminary in Louisville and later did his doctoral studies through Golden Gate Seminary in San Francisco. Cal served at First Baptist Lethbridge for three years and then twenty-six years at Emmanuel Baptist in Saskatoon, before going to Prince George in 2010. Cal has been very involved with Canadian Baptist Ministries (CBM), serving on the Board for ten years including a term as President. Cal is married to Joanne and they have four adult children. For fun he likes to run, play golf and build robots.
Greg is married to Colleen (41 years) and they have 3 married adult children and 6 grandchildren. Greg started serving at New Life, Duncan, in 2003 after moving back out west from Ontario where he was on a church planting team for 14 years. He completed his Bible School training at 45 at Tyndale College. He has spent 16 years in business and 8 years as a Director of a Christian Retreat & Conference Centre. He left New Life in 2010 to assist a Church merger in Vernon BC for 3 years. New Life then called him back in 2013 as their Transitional Pastor while searching for a Lead Pastor. That completed in late 2014. Greg’s primary role now is Congregational Care and his greatest joy is to serve the people of God in helping them live a joyful Christ-filled life. Greg enjoys networking and looks forward to getting connected with the greater family of CBWC through his assistance on this Board.
Alberta & NWT Representatives
Jason currently resides in High River with his wife Jana and their three girls where he serves as lead pastor on staff at High River Baptist Church. He has also pastored churches in Calgary and Brownfield AB before coming to where he is now. Originally from Vancouver Island, through the years he has served in various roles at the CBWC including AB area committees, retreat planner, and currently finishing his MDiv through Carey. He has a passion to see churches healthy in all matters of justice, truth, mercy and worship standing on His Word as the embodiment of the hands and feet of Christ.
Linda is a lay leader at Altadore Baptist Church in Calgary. With her gift of leadership, she has been involved over that last 25 years as Moderator, chair/co-chair of Elders. She has also chaired the Board at Gull Lake Baptist Camp for two years. Linda grew up at First Baptist Peace River, AB. She also attended BLTS. This year she celebrates 31 years of being happily married to Roland. They have three adult children and a plus one, son in law. Linda works full time and is an organizer of people and things. She has a heart for coming alongside people in their journey.
Herb was raised in Stettler, AB where he attended Stettler Baptist Church until he was 17. He moved to Edmonton and went to the University of Alberta to get a degree in Mechanical engineering and worked in the oil and gas industry for 36 years. He retired in 2010. For the past 20 years, Herb and his wife Karen, whom he married in 1982, have attended Trinity Baptist Church in Sherwood Park. He is on Trinity’s Council, Finance Committee and the PropertyTeam. When not volunteering at church, Herb and Karen operate a ranch, manage various properties and enjoy fishing, snowmobiling, quading and camping at their lake property. They also enjoy visiting with their three children and two grandchildren.
Joshua has been the pastor in Asquith Saskatchewan since 2006. He married Sandra in 1995 and they have four children, Ben, Nathan, Samuel, and Rebekah. He loves to travel, read, and spend as much time as possible with his kids who are growing up far too quickly. Joshua finds great joy in living in Saskatchewan while remaining loyal to the Edmonton Eskimos. Before entering the ministry Joshua spent a number of years in the hydraulics industry but his kids still think his teenage years at McDonalds are by far the coolest thing he has done with his life.
Loralyn is serving the Lord as pastor of Dauphin First Baptist Church, wife of Cordell and mother of three young adults. She has been on staff at Emmanuel Baptist in Saskatoon and First Baptist, Prince George. Loralyn enjoys fishing, cheers faithfully for the Riders and Canucks, makes peach jam almost every year and loves her church family.
Ravi has been attending Broadway First Baptist Church Winnipeg since she was 8 yrs old. She and her family were refugees from Laos and were sponsored by BFBC May 1980. She was on the Deacons Board for 3 years and served on the Hospitality commission. She met her husband Kefin in college in 1992 and got married in 1996. They have 2 boys, Dylan 14 and Rhys 12. Ravi has worked in the financial service industry since 2002. She loves going out to eat and trying new food and enjoy sharing it with her families and friends.
