Mark Buchanan is an Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at Ambrose University College in Calgary, AB. Prior to taking on this roll in the fall of 2013, he was the Senior Pastor of New Life Community Baptist Church in Duncan, BC. He is frequently in demand as a keynote speaker at Christian conferences.
Hidden in Plain Sight: The Secret of More
Even for the religious, life is full of questions: What is faith? Can my life be more satisfying? How can I deepen my walk with Christ? What does it mean to be happy? These questions bubble and boil underneath the surface of our everyday life. And though we ignore them, we know they point us to realms of wisdom or even mystery – to something more. This book explores seven virtues listed in 2 Peter 1: 1-9 that Christians must seek to grow closer to God: goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. As these virtues are possessed, the life of Christ will flow more fully in each Christian’s life.

The Holy Wild: Trusting in the Character of God
Buchanan seeks to answer the question, “Can God be trusted?” He argues that how we see God makes a difference in every aspect of our lives and challenges us to trust in three of God’s divine attributes: His benevolence, His saving nature and His majesty. By resting in God and accepting Him as both loving and full of purifying wrath, we will meet Him in the midst of our trials, boredom and disasters and learn to live fully as we walk with our surprising, dangerous and mysterious God.

The Rest of God: Restoring Your Soul By Restoring Sabbath
In his fourth book, Mark Buchanan delves into the concept of the Sabbath. He argues that readers should revive the Sabbath as a refuge from our pervasive and spiritually destructive culture of busyness. This book is full of practical advice that allows us to accept the rest of God and the virtue of stillness which leads to freedom, healing and abundant lives.

Things Unseen: Living Eternity in Your Heart
Blending pastoral warmth, philosophical depth, storytelling skill, and literary craft, Mark Buchanan encourages Christians to focus resolutely on eternal life – filling our vision and anchoring our hope in the promises of heaven. When earthly life dims in comparison, says Buchanan, we become truly fearless on this earth, free from the fear of losing our life, property, status, title, or comfort. We will have new energy to serve God and become transformed to transform the world. Buchanan reawakens the instinctive yearning for things above, showing that only the heavenly minded are of much earthly good.

Your God is Too Safe
This book explores why Christians get stuck in the place of complacency, dryness, and tedium — and how to move on to new levels of spiritual passion! Buchanan shows how the majority of Christians begin their spiritual journey with excitement and enthusiasm — only to get stuck in routine activities and wandering in a “borderland” — an in-between space beyond the “old life” but short of the abundant, adventurous existence promised by Jesus. Buchanan finds his solution in realizing that God is neither safe nor predictable.
