Assembly 2025

On Earth As It Is In Heaven

What is the CBWC Assembly?

The purpose of assembly is two-fold: To foster deeper and meaningful connection with other affiliated churches and people of the CBWC, and to do the business of the CBWC. Decisions on policy, new church affiliation, board member elections, budgets, etc, are made at assemblies made up of delegates from our churches. The CBWC Volunteer Board of elected representatives brings to these meetings the motions to be discussed and voted on. The decisions made at Assembly then guide the staff and board in the implementation.

Biannually, our association of churches enjoy face to face time with others from across Western Canada through meaningful worship, engaging keynote speakers & workshops, and connecting time over meals and free time while also attending the annual business meeting portions.

Assembly 2025

Our 2025 Assembly will be shaped around the Lord’s Prayer with special keynote speaker Dr. Carmen Joy Imes who is the Associate Professor of Old Testament at Biola University’s Talbot School of Theology

Dr. Carmen Joy Imes is associate professor of Old Testament at Talbot School of Theology, Biola University, in Southern California. Before that she spent four years teaching at Prairie College in Three Hills, Alberta. She is the author of Bearing God’s Name: Why Sinai Still Matters, Being God’s Image: Why Creation Still Matters, and the forthcoming Becoming God’s Family: Why the Church Still Matters. Carmen has a YouTube channel where she releases weekly Torah Tuesday videos and you can find her writing on various websites, including Christianity Today, The Well, and The Politics of Scripture blog. Carmen is passionate about equipping the church to engage the Old Testament well and to see its relevance for the Christian life.

Theme

On Earth As It Is In Heaven: Kingdom-Shaped Living for Today’s Disciple

At the very centre of the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus teaches us to pray the words ‘on earth as it is in heaven’. That pivotal phrase can shape our perspective and practices on everything we do in churches, workplaces, and our neighborhoods. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to proclaim and embody the inbreaking of God’s heavenly kingdom into His beloved world. Through teaching and shared stories, our theme this year will encourage and equip you to live as a kingdom-shaped disciple in your world.
