There have been some amazing affirmations of God’s gifting to women in the Baptist Union of Western Canada over the last year. While the first ordained woman to minister in Canada was Fidelia Gillettein the 1888, the first woman ordained by the Baptist Union of Western Canada was Miss E. Mae Benedict . A series of papers and resources in the area of women in ministry are available beginning this week in our “fresh sheets”.
Here is a partial list of women in ministry in our midst.
- Beth Millard is the new BUWC President.
- Fay Puddicombe is the new Carey Centre Board Chair.
- Faye Reynolds has moved from a contract position to senior staff.
- Laura Nelson will substitute as BC and Yukon Area Minister while Paul Pearce is away (Laura will work with George Sears)
- Jo-Ann Matiachuk is the new Executive Minister at First Baptist Church Vancouver
- The new women’s study program is being handled by several teachers including Dr. Barbara Mutch from the Carey Centre (who leads us as Carey Centre’s Academic Dean)
- Joyce Peasgood, a professor at Rocky Mountain College, is the new Dean of Students for BUWC students at Rocky.
- Wendy Thom was appointed the solo pastor at Shoal Lake Manitoba in July 2006
As the Holy Spirit gifts so people are called to minister.
Warmly,
In Christ
