An Invitation to Rest: BPC 2026
by Esther Kitchener, Event Planner
Every November, CBWC pastors and their spouses have the privilege of gathering in Banff for restoration of mind, body, soul, and spirit. Having been part of the CBWC family for 31 years, my husband and I have personally experienced how this annual retreat has become an essential and profound benchmark in our ministry journey.
Each year, we make the trek to Banff. Sometimes we have arrived weary from the demands of family and ministry life; other times, we have come in seasons marked by joy and fruitful service. Regardless of the circumstances, Banff has always been a gift. It provides an opportunity to reconnect with others who inherently understand the unique realities of pastoral ministry—the deep joys and the complex challenges.
In pastoral ministry, there is profound privilege in walking alongside people in both joy and sorrow. There is also the quiet weight of ministry: the emotional demands, the constant care for others, and the cumulative weariness that comes from preaching, leading, and serving week after week. Banff offers a place of renewal, encouragement, and understanding unlike any other.
My hope for you this year is that, regardless of the season you find yourself in, you will join your colleagues in Banff and experience the deep rest that is essential for resilient and effective pastoral ministry.
Embrace the spaciousness of open afternoons and unhurried evenings. Set aside, for a few days, the responsibilities that so often occupy your mind and your time and allow yourself to be cared for, prayed over, fed, and inspired. Be refreshed through meaningful worship, encouraging conversations, and the beauty of God's creation.
For 47 years, the CBWC pastors and spouses have had the privilege of gathering at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. This year, while our meeting will take place at a different hotel, we will still be surrounded by the same breathtaking beauty of the Rockies. As Executive Staff, we look forward to welcoming you! Things will be different, but the essentials remain the same.
My prayer is that you will leave Banff renewed in mind, body, soul, and spirit, strengthened for the ministry that awaits you.
Different Hotel — Same Soul Restoration:
This year, we will be meeting at the newly renovated Banff Park Lodge in Banff. Shifting to this hotel will make the conference financially accessible to more of our pastors. The price point per couple has been reduced by 20% for 2026! If you would like to come but the price point remains out of range for you and your church, please connect with your Regional Office to explore the possibility of subsidized funding.
The Banff Park Lodge is located just one block off the Bow River and the Bow River Trail that winds along the forested shores of the valley's namesake river and crosses a wooden bridge for a 6.9 km loop. A short walk to Banff Ave and surrounding area will give you access to shops and restaurants to explore.
Different Mealtimes — Same Delicious Fare:
All meals will be buffet style with seating options in two dining rooms: Glacier Salon and the Crave Mountain Grill. Both dining rooms have outstanding views of the Rockies and spacious room for connecting with friends, new and old. Although there will not be an intentional hospitality room with food available through the day, there will be two nutritional breaks per day with coffee/tea and snacks to fuel you for mornings of keynote inspiration and afternoons of adventure.
Meals provided onsite by CBWC: Monday dinner, Tuesday breakfast and lunch, Wednesday breakfast and lunch, Thursday breakfast. For those with dietary restrictions, all food will be labeled so that you can self-select food that is appropriate and safe for you.
Dinner options: If you feel like staying in, there are two restaurants onsite at Banff Park Lodge for your enjoyment (La Terazza and Crave). Or check out a myriad of dining options in walking distance to the hotel. Some restaurants may be closed on November 11, so reservations are strongly recommended.
Different Schedule — Same Open Afternoons:
Each morning will begin with breakfast, served on a first-come, first-served basis from 7:00–9:00 a.m. We will then gather for a morning of worship and keynote sessions, followed by lunch together. After lunch, you will have the afternoon free to enjoy the many activities and attractions the area has to offer.
This year, there will also be one open evening, giving you additional time to explore, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the Rockies at your own pace.
Throughout our time, we will explore what it means to live and lead as fragile yet faithful vessels—Treasures in Jars of Clay—embracing our weaknesses, cultivating humble servant leadership, and resting in the truth that God’s strength is most clearly revealed in our dependence on Him.
Our keynote speakers include Lissa Wray Beal (Wycliffe College, Toronto School of Theology) and Steve Brown (Columbia Bible College), with worship led by Jon Buller. Monday evening will be an inspirational concert with two members from The Porter’s Gate.
We hope you and your spouse will join us for this meaningful time of spiritual renewal, connection, and encouragement as you are freshly equipped to shepherd God’s people.
