CBWC Foundation–101
1. What is the CBWC Foundation? The Foundation is "the bank" for the denomination. It's a connected, but legally separate organization. Our office is in Calgary, and we serve across the CBWC world.
2. What does the Foundation do? We do 4 things:
Loans to CBWC churches, camps, schools and other like-minded groups to help them purchase, construct, and renovate their church buildings. Presently, we have 32 loans out to CBWC-connected locations.
Give education grants to CBWC pastors who are starting or upgrading their education. A better-trained pastor is a better pastor. In the last 5 years we have given grants to 55 pastors upgrading their learning.
Take deposits from churches, pay them a good rate of interest, and in turn, lend the money to other churches (our Kingdom Builder's Fund).
Lead workshops to help people consider how to better steward their financial resources during their family years and in preparation for heaven. We are offering a “Lives and Legacies Workshop" across the CBWC at 12 different times/locations in 2026. Keep your eyes open.
3. How did the Foundation start? It began in 2001 when Bentall Family members left a legacy gift of $9 million. Since then, careful management—along with gifts from CBWC wills and estates—has consistently grown the fund.
4. What is the size of the Foundation? Presently, we manage $22 million.
5. What is our partnership with Advisors with Purpose? AWP is a faith ministry out of Ottawa that provides a professional financial plan to folks looking to set up for retirement and ultimately leave a legacy with their will. Because the CBWC is a subscribing partner with them, this financial service is free of charge to all congregants. Feel free to reach out to them and mention you are part of the CBWC world. 7. What is your goal for the Foundation? We hope to grow to $30 million of assets under management. A larger Foundation means we can help more churches, pastors, and specific situations.
