What Difference Does Active in Mission Make?
The CBWC family has been part of Active in Mission for several years now. The premise is that, along with our sister denominations across Canada, we raise funds to support food security initiatives taking place globally through Canadian Baptist Ministries and locally through Canadian Baptist churches.
This idea sounds great, but what does it actually mean?
To Berea Baptist Church, an Active in Mission grant means the ability to more than triple the capacity of their food pantry.
"Berea has experienced an influx of immigrant families, many from countries in Africa. Sharing food with these new friends has been a wonderful way to build relationships, and to learn about food that is culturally familiar to them so we can provide items that represent staples for their home pantries. Berea is so grateful to the Justice and Mercy Network of the CBWC for the grant funds! This has strengthened the sustainability of the ministry and enabled us to respond to changing needs and increased usage. To God be the glory!”
To Calvary Baptist Church in Fort St. John, Active in Mission funding means that young moms and college kids in their community are learning to cook healthier meals through their “Tasty Meals” program—and getting a bit of extra help with groceries. Not only that, neighbours are connecting meaningfully with those in the congregation.
"This program brings out the love of the Christian community. One of the volunteers for this year’s class was a participant at the last year’s class—and when she was a participant last
year, she grew to love this Christian community.... Cooking together brings joy, laughter, and happiness. When we work together, we bond as individual people and as brothers and sisters in Christ... Tasty Meals Program is a way of reaching people and showing the love of Christ through the joys of cooking healthy and well-balanced meals.”
